THE LIGHT BETWEEN SPACE is the record of a musical dialogue that took place over three days in early 2011 between myself and musical colleague David Kaetz.
With the microphones on in Golden Tone Studios in Victoria, and the overtone-rich thrum of the Indian tanpura in our ears, we gave ourselves over to exploring the moods and colours of five ancient modes, as they are found tuned into the domed surfaces of five different hangs. (The PANArt hang, as it is now made, has only one tuning; in the early years of its development, they were tuned in a wide variety of scales. These earlier instruments are the ones that were used - along with a Bb clarinet. The tunings are listed on the CD.)
